Burlington Post 63, District Events

Expedition from Chapel Hill

Chapel Hill Post 6 has come up with a idea to drive attendance at our district meeting.

The post always sends the Post Commander and possibly the Adjutant will attend our April event.  They attend all district meetings and more.  They were looking at ways to encourage members to attend and here is their novel approach.

ZacksThey are making a field trip for post members.  It is a day in Burlington with stops to fun places along the way to the meeting at Burlington Post 63.  They will  stop by Zack’s Hot Dogs and then the City of Burlington Park  first. Then, when the meeting is over, they will continue their field trip back home with a stop in downtown Graham.  They will  stop for a brew and mill around downtown before taking in the 7 p.m. move at the Graham Cinema.

The Graham Cinema is a 1940’s era movie theater that is much like they found in their hometowns.  This writer can remember going to the Saturday afternoon movie and seeing two movies, ten cartoons and a serial–all for nine cents!

Here is their plan:

  1. An early snack lunch at Zack’s Hot Dogs in Downtown Burlington served to an overflow or standing room only crowd.  Sliders, veggie burgers, hamburgers, hotdogs (cooked in the store window) fries and old time soda in a 8 oz bottle.
  2. A visit to the City of Burlington Park with miniature train ride.
  3. The District Meeting.
  4. A tour of Downtown Graham, A visit to a local pub for beer and popcorn, followed by the first movie at the historic Graham Cinema at 7 pm.  All seats $4.

What about your post?  Do you  have a way to fill Post 63’s District Meeting?  Let’s do our best to have every post there and lots of post members, too.
